About "create what you want to see". It's always free game to shit on aspec wanting to be included in fandom isn't it? "Let people have fun" maybe everyone should have fun. Maybe it's ok to want more fanworks you'd like instead of being told that you should do it yourself especially if you don't have the skills for it.
This is amazing how you guys can't think for a second that there's people different than you with different idea and that they have the right to feel saddened to feel excluded.
Oh sorry. It make you think about fandom beside shipping right?
I'm assuming this is in response to the discussion around Fandom Problem #9008.

I don't think you understand what a girlboss character is and why people hate it.
Most girlboss characters these days aren't strong, empowered women to look up to, or remotely perfect like your submission implies. Most girlboss characters act like middle school bullies, but the narrative treats them like they're peak feminism...even when they're outright abusing other women.
These days there is rarely a girlboss character who is genuinely acting the way she does for well-written reasons. THAT is what we are sick of. The trope has been killed by bad writers who can't tell assertiveness and aggressiveness apart, and who think toxic behavior is admirable.

Problem 9008
Like it or not, the vast majority of people are not aro, and romance is extremely important to most people. Which means that most people will want to write content about it.
And yeah, it's annoying to want something specific and have to make it yourself because no one else is interested, but what exactly do you want people to do? Like, genuinely, what do you think is going to happen by constantly complaining about it?
Like, okay, you want people to stop shipping characters and write more platonic stuff or stuff with aromantic characters. How are you going to make them do that?
This is fandom. This is a hobby. You cannot just force people to make things specifically for you.
And even if you could magically enforce that people had to write, Idk, 10 fics about platonic wholesome aro characters before they were allowed to ship, they would very likely give you back 10 short, unedited, half-assed drabbles and go "See? There. I made your 10 things. Now get off my ass and let me write what I actually want."
Listen, I know it sucks. On AO3 there are around 40,000 fics in my fandom. So there's quite a lot!
But I ship a rarepair. And when I say rarepair, I mean rarepair.
Do you know how many fics there are for that pairing?
One.
AND I'M THE ONE THAT WROTE IT!
But I'm certainly not going around and demanding that other people write fics for that pair. Because that would be annoying as hell.

OOP of the "trashy" anon.
I meant it's trashy to take over main to display your niche. I meant it's trashy to fully and wholly take source canon and twist it against what it actually is and use that on main to the level of drowning the rest of the fandom.
Big example that was in my head: Metaltango shipping, Resident Evil fandom. Leon and Jack don't go in lingerie and they are not trans. Period.
I used the trans shit as an example. Y'all are locked WAY too hard on that shit. Back up a bit. You've been on Tumblr too long today.

I'm sorry, but telling someone complaining of a lack of certain fics in a fandom to make their own isn't a cop out. It's reality. I get the frustration, but writers are under no obligation to write for others. Many of these writers also noticed a lack of something in their fandoms and took the step to fill it themselves. They are spending their own time and energy on writing their own stories. None of them were immediately good or successful. Many of them had busy lives of their own. But they still tried.
It's better to see someone trying to create than someone who just complains.
Also, the excuse of OOP maybe being unable to create the exact content they want to see leads to the question of how can a second or third party be expected to do so?
There are far too many passive-aggressive posts of fans complaining but refusing to take the incentive and create the very content they want to see. Also, complaining is one thing, but making sly insults and calling writers a bunch of buzzwords for not creating their chosen content is another.
Whenever I see one of those passive-aggressive posts in my fandoms, I ignore it. And depending on the tone, I do the exact opposite. Too many times, I see people coming together to complain about the lack something, something they themselves could fix, but don't. Even refuse to do so. As in their minds, they shouldn't have to, the fandom just needs to stop being bigoted. Instead, they reblog callout posts in hope of guilting someone into doing their work for them.
Look, I'm not saying OOP is doing just that. But if you want to see a specific kind of content, do it yourself.

Problem 8654
this is the result of people taking the "lgbt+ and queer people should be accepted" movement to its extreme, now we're accepted but instead of stopping there we now have to vilify and shit on anyone else who isn't queer or lgbt+ because they're, according to some queer and lgbt+ people who need to touch grass, "boring", "bad", or "sad and depressing, oughhh who'd wanna live like that ;o;". this is also why i can't stand even flippant cis het etc jokes because it just adds to this and a lot of impressionable kids take them seriously, or even if they don't at first, they keep regurgitating the jokes until they believe them. :/

Fandom Problem #8697
Sorry but unless someone is making media directly aimed at children (like Bluey, MLP, Steven Universe, etc.), it is NOT their responsibility to teach your children that rape/incest/abuse/whatever is bad.
When I was a kid I read all sorts of crazy Hetalia doujinshi's with all kinds of romanticized, toxic shit and underage/bestiality/incest/etc. and not once did I ever think "Wow, I saw it in a comic so it must be okay! I should do this in real life!" because even at 10 years old, I was smart enough to know better.
After Game of Thrones released, was there an increase in cases of people marrying their sisters?
After Hannibal released, was there an increase in murder and cannibalism?
After GTA released, was there an increase in people stealing cars and then mowing down pedestrians?
No? Hm, why could that be, I wonder?
And before anyone comes in with the "Buh-buh-buh wuh about 50 Shades of Gray!" The problem with 50 Shades of Gray was that the average person is not properly educated about BDSM and how it's practiced. Most people recieve absolutely abysmal sex ed and don't even know where the clitoris is, let alone how to tie someone up safely.
Whereas most people DO recieve education like, "Incest is wrong and nasty" and "Do not eat other human beings" and "It's not nice to steal from other people".
If you hear stories of kids getting groomed or hurt because they read something they shouldn't have and thought it was okay, your reaction should not be, "We need to ban all of the Bad Evil Media to protect the children!"
Your reaction should be, "Where the fuck are their parents? Why are we not giving children comprehensive sexual education in school and teaching them to recognize signs of abusive relationships and grooming? Why are children not being taught basic media literacy skills? Why are there children and teenagers that cannot differentiate between a fictional story and real life?"

I’ve tried to stay quiet about it but 5414 confirmed that it’s becoming too big of an issue: can we just get Xtians out of fandom please lmao
Fandom is supposed to be anti-bigotry and that won’t happen with Xtians and frankly any religious freaks being allowed. It’s probably the one fandom issue where I support gatekeeping; when it protects the common good of fandom. Call me an anti all you want but the religious have no place in fandom whatsoever. People come to this blog and complain and whine about purity culture and bigotry ruining fandoms, well guess what? The Xtian vermin you let sneak into your precious fandoms are the cause of every “fandom problem” listed on this blog. Literally 99% of these issues would be gone if people stood up and drove religion-crazed delusional lunatics out of their fandoms.
And don’t pretend religious people who don’t support bigotry exist. All. Religion. Is. Inherently. Bigoted.
No one wants you or your delusion in their fandoms. You contribute nothing. Do everyone a favor and fuck right out of your fandoms, please!

When I watched shows with my Mom growing up, she would take the time to point out if a relationship or portrayal was unhealthy. She would take the time to explain that magic and stuff wasn't real. And my Dad MADE SURE I understood that, no, I wouldn't survive an anvil landing on me like in Looney Tunes (not that that was really a problem I'd encounter.)
If my parents saw me emulating something negative I saw on TV, they would say, "You can't watch that, anymore" until I was older (Especially after toddler me tried to sword fight my Mom using a butter knife, courtesy of Xena Warrior Princess.) Same goes for if they knew the show had content in appropriate for my age group (they understand not all cartoons are for kids).
It's the PARENTS job to decide what is suitable for their kids, (which varies from kid to kid) and make sure they understand how to separate fantasy from reality.

I often see people with DNIs insist they're effective and work, because their interactions go down. But they always fail to recognize the simple fact that the DNIs aren't usually working because people who are on the DNI choose to follow it, and that's where the reduction in interactions comes from. No, that reduction is largely people who aren't on the DNI at all, but just don't want to deal with someone who doesn't know the first two shits about how internet space curation works, and who thinks virtue signalling all over is healthy. It screams melodramatic, high-strung, and overly controlling.

People have this weird idea that not wanting kids is feminist while wanting kids is "supporting the patriarchy", when in reality the feminist stance is "women should be allowed to choose what they want"
Funny how people claiming to support women only support them if they shun anything associated with femininity at all.

I’ve seen multiple kids put their full government name, age, and hometown in their profiles before. It’s absolutely astounding. I’m in my 20s and when I was in elementary and middle school they taught us all about internet safety and the importance of not sharing personal information. I legitimately thought until I was 15 or 16 that sharing any amount of personal information was basically asking to get kidnapped. Do they just not teach kids internet safety anymore?
I am generally an optimist and like to see the best in people. But there’s a difference between optimism and stupidity. These kids need to learn that while most people are good, there’s plenty of people who aren’t, and they need to be cautious and keep themselves safe from people who would do them harm. Even though there’s a lot of good, the internet is not a safe place and it’s foolish to assume that it is. Even just saying that they’re a minor feels dangerous to me. It seems like it’s broadcasting that they are very likely naive and vulnerable to someone with bad intentions.

#6552:
What I find such a weird change these days is that when I was a minor, it was a universal understanding that fandom in general was not for minors regardless of the franchise it was build on. It always was an adult space, as adults were and still are after all the people who make most fancreations, host zines, create merch, host entire conventions, and so forth. Any minors who came into fandom, like me back then, had to be mindful of that and understand that they are the ones who are technically not supposed to be there
Yet these days there are so many minors who almost act entitled and think that adults, who had been there first and had created fandom as it is today, should not be in certain or any fandom spaces. While also at the same time constantly trying to interact with the adult content adult creators make, no matter how much they ask them not to do that
Which even happens in fandoms for franchises that are full on adult content. These days I majorly create for M or E rated fandoms that depict violence and/or sex and still constantly see minors who complain about adults being there

Re Lolita.
Maybe it's because I went to an IB school that nailed critical thinking skills into you from a young age (seriously- the difference I see is night and day), but we actually read Lolita in eleventh grade English, and none of us walked away thinking it was a good relarionship. The whole reason they even taught it to us was because it bucks the pervasive stereotype of these people being basement dwelling, slobby freaks, and it shows, like domestic abusers often are, these people are often hiding in plain sight. If that's not a deeply important lesson, I don't know what is.
As far as "I'm grossed out by this, it's fucking pedophilia", good for you, I suppose? Do you want a gold star? I'm pretty sure everyone agrees with you, even the people who have certain kinks related to adult/child relationships. But we're not talking about real pedophilia, we're talking about fictional, and you can't even differentiate between the two which is telling enough of how unable you are to think with your brain.

Problem 8890
"Hell, I frankly would never trust another women who enjoys female rape in any kind of way, even in only a "fiction way" because at best, these women have internalized the misogynistic teachings of society that female pain is sexy and need to unlearn it before being trusted to fully respect and not dehumanize survivors in a bunch of little ways, or they are just another predator who needs to kept far, far away from others."
Ah, you mean like the way you dehumanize women (including survivors of rape btw) by treating them as either brainwashed victims of the patriarchy who are too stupid to know any better, or dangerous predators and future rapists, just for engaging with fictional stories?
Rape fantasies are some of the most common fantasies that people have (there have been multiple studies on this).
Studies also show that there are a lot of links between being positive towards sex, open to sexual fantasy, and having high self esteem and having rape fantasies.*
I have rape fantasies and it's not even remotely about the pain (in fact, if the character isn't secretly enjoying it, it makes me queasy).
For me, it's about feeling desired and wanted, and not having to worry about making any decisions. I don't have to worry about how to flirt, or what I'm supposed to wear, or trying to look sexy and desireable. I can just enjoy myself and not think or worry about anything else.
Maybe you should read studies and listen to actual psychologists and sex therapists to learn more about why ravishment fantasies develop instead of drinking puritan koolaid.

About 6020: You turning a white character into a black or brown character because you cannot relate to the white character unless they are the same skin tone as you is the racist take here.
BEFORE some toxic person says, “hehe, says the straight cis white man saying this,” I’m a mixed black woman. I grew up with characters who were the opposite gender or me, a different background than me, and are a different skin tone than me. And yet, I still loved these characters, because of their CHARACTER. I can relate to Peter Parker because I was once a shy and awkward geeky girl in high school who did not know how to talk to a cute guy. I am entertained by a character like Kim Possible because we kind of have similarities, having a mother in the medical field and being dorky and all goo-goo eyes around guys we like.
I don’t give a damn if a character is the same skin tone as me, all I care about is their personality traits and what they bring to the table in that world.
I have integrity. I am currently in the making of making a modern day fantasy story with my non-fandom OCs, both of whom are black characters, but their story is based around how skilled they are at magic and how they navigate their own personal demons and their adult life all while taking down a corrupt magic user. It annoys me to see racebent characters because it’s a waste of time and talent and I just ignore it. You can base a POC character off of a popular white character, but they cannot just be “black version of Popular white character” “Asian version of popular white character,” or literally any minority race version of a popular white character.
The racism in fandom and art communities is so astounding sometimes.
